The Art of Naughty Dog
It’s crazy how far the style of Naughty Dog has evolved since the early 1990’s. From Crash Bandicoot, through Jak and Daxter, Uncharted, and The Last of Us, Naughty Dog creates some incredible worlds and characters. This book compiles everything from concept drawings to landscapes, character models to enemy designs. All of that on beautifully glossy paper, which is really what makes buying an art book worth it, right? Much better than that binder of old printouts you assembled in high school.
The Art of Fallout 4
When it comes to developing massive worlds, filled with lore and memorable locations, it’s hard to top Bethesda. The Art of Fallout 4 is an incredibly thick volume of works from the Commonwealth, showcasing armor, enemies, and landscapes from post-war Boston. If you’re into that post-apocalyptic aesthetic, or just love the Fallout series, this one is worth a look!
The Art of God of War
The game just came out and we’re still riding that hype train off into the sunset. The new God of War is a visually striking game with incredible landscapes, enemies, characters, and weapons. Taking some time to check out the beauty of the game when you’re not worried about being attacked by a draugr offers the opportunity to really take it all in.
The Art of Horizon Zero Dawn
Did you think we could mention visually striking games and not bring up Horizon? The juxtaposition between nature and technology was captured so well in this game. Everything from the rolling landscapes to the giant machines you hunted can be found here.
The Legend of Zelda Art and Artifacts
Whether you’re a fan of the series or not, the Legend of Zelda series has some beautiful artwork and creative creatures. Everything from character designs to weapons and locations is here for your browsing pleasure. If you’re looking to make a full set of the Legend of Zelda archive, don’t forget to also check out the Hyrule Historia (already out) and the Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia (available for pre-order).
Bonus Round: Valve Presents Volume 1
Ok, this one isn’t so much an art book as it is a collection of comics, but hey, it’s still a great addition to your library! As a fan of Valve’s games like Half Life, Portal, and Left 4 Dead, these comics were wicked fun to read through. It even includes the Lab Rat comic, the tie-between story of the Doug the “rat man” between Portal and Portal 2. If you’re into Valve games, this one’s for you!
